Men and Women
Man is an animal. First and foremost. Consciousness is his salvation. It protects him from himself by creating himself. But his creations make him forget who he is and so he follows his dreams…
There are some who have learnt to straddle the human world and the natural world. After returning from a particular battle, Muhammad was reported to have said something along the lines of going from the lesser struggle to the greater struggle. I wonder, alone amongst his people, if he knew of the cost of violence. I think he must have. He sued many times for peace in order to avoid needless conflict, almost losing his support in the process. Young men are hot-blooded and often their generals are trapped by the visions of a young man’s glory.
What I have learned is to live. Death is a part of this. Recognising the reality of death is the ONLY way to understand the value of life. Comforting platitudes about human life being precious and equality for all are just that, comforting platitudes. But for most people, they are necessary and must be heard (and believed). Many forget just how ‘insane’ man can be. We have spent a lot of time covering up our true natures. War is such a naturally terrible thing that once you realise its nature, you do what you can to stay away from it. But the reality is that it exists and it exists for a reason. That reason? Young men don’t realise its nature.
A man needs to have a woman’s eyes if he is to become human. We tend to forget that it takes two to tango. Woman have the advantage, such that it is, of childbirth. That teaches you about life and death. Men can only learn about life and death through violence. Combat is the only real way for a man to test himself before death. By test, I mean learning about mortality, his mortality. Is that what woman secretly learns with her monthly reminders?

I have always said that women are the closest thing to God. They can create life. I have always felt envious that I will never know the love that a mother knows. I suppose I do in a way, that being the love I have for my Mother, but I feel it pails into insignificance. To know life is growing within, must be an amazing feeling.
Men are volatile, obnoxious, self-righteous, ignorant, malicious, selfish beings. We are slow to believe, learn, love.
Death is necessary. (Sad…. but true).
What is sadder than war is Man’s destruction of this world for its own gain. Industry (especially the petro-chemical) is Evil.
“Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (J.Conrad wasn’t it?)
You should change that last quote into, “Power attracts the corruptible, absolute power attracts the absolutely corruptible.”
Man always comes first. That is why he is last.
Very nice, Sleiman. Well done. I can’t even think of any snarky little comments to put here.
In that respect, I suppose, this essay of yours is a bit of a disappointment.
There, that’s done it!
The fact that you are commenting Kent is comment enough. Thankyou for reading. Honestly.
