Fools and Magic

It takes just one word of honesty to tear down all of our barriers. How frightening is that one word! How powerful! I wonder how the first man felt when he realised that the tiger was just too strong for him. We make jokes about being primal but I am telling you now, I have gone back in time and feasted with the beasts. It was only one bite, but it was enough for me to know our beginnings.

Paradoxes upon paradoxes, contradictions upon contradictions. Once, someone responded with the words, “Smoke and mirrors! It’s all smoke and mirrors!” I prayed that that exclamation would turn him into the same mist that he feared but it is hard to see one’s self disappear. When I think of these situations, I am reminded that my heart is like a magician, that it doesn’t exist as it waits for others to discover their hidden secrets.

I have no desire to pull a rabbit out of my hat. There are more than enough of them out there to not have to bother with such trickery. People live in their own world of illusion, so it is quite amusing to see Disney claim exclusive rights over dreams. Why, what is the history of man but the manipulation of dreams? I wonder what woman has thought of man’s dreams…

We hold back. We hold it all back and never realise just how miserly we really are. Oh, how we are miserly! I think creativity must be seen as a kind of sickness. Sensitivity too. It is not normal and the cure for it must be self-prescribed. What a tragic way of looking at our highest capacities. Do we dare dream of a time when all are infected? What a strange world that would be. Even in harmony, there is conflict and tension. Without it, we cannot grow but what is scary is that growing makes no difference. The wise man will perish just as easily as the fool.

I will let you in on a little secret, the fool has the secret of immortality but only the wise man knows it.

One Response to “Fools and Magic”

  1. ‘Tis a wise fool that pretends to know anything.

We are all made of the same stuff. It is what we do with that stuff that differentiates us. People are basically fools. Wisdom is subjective. Hindu’s that are closest to Nirvana aim to do nothing. To sit. To meditate. To be still. Wise or foolish? I see merit but also see apathy. How do the wisest help the foolish?
